10 things you can't do without

You can’t work without air-conditioning. Nor can you go without the office water cooler and your daily doses of instant coffee. Of course, you can try, but why punish yourself? Work’s tough enough as it is. Don’t make it harder.

We spend so much time in the office that it’s as good as our second home. That being the case, we might as well make it as cosy as possible. What better way to make ourselves feel at home, than to bring bits and pieces of our domestic life into our cubicles?

Some need to drink from their special mugs or their day won’t start right. Others have urges to sniff their drool-stained cushions to cope with work stress (don’t ask and we won’t tell you how it smells).

Let’s sneak a peek into some other interesting office must haves.

Idol mania
“I love Korean stars! Whenever I’m frustrated or feeling pressure at work, seeing pictures of these hunks will perk me up and let me forget about the troubles temporarily.” - Regine Loh, 24, Bank executive

Happy feet
“Slippers are a must, especially when I’m in high heels everyday. I walk around in slippers in the office, if not, those heels will murder my feet!” - Cindy Ong, 27, Project manager

Colour splash
“It is very handy to have three colors on your hand at one time because as a journalist, there are various points you need to mark out when reading long statements, and they help organize the points I need to extract.” - Derrick Ho, 24, News assistant

Vanity fair
“I keep a portion of my earrings in the office, so that I can change from my corporate earrings to more funky ones if I’m heading out after work at night. And when I’m bored at work, I change my earrings for fun.” - Vanessa Lin, 24, Brand executive

Comfort zone
“Two cushions — one to lean on, the other to hug. Sometimes when I walk around in the office, to photocopy documents or to ask my colleague something, I subconsciously take my cushion along!” - Shirley Lim, 26, Credit Analyst

Food junkie
“I need to have junk food within reach, because snacking keeps me awake at work. Doritos are my must haves.” - Ang Sheila, 22, Accounts assistant

Mummy’s girl
“A day in the office without a call from my mother does not feel right. By 4pm, if she does not call, I will call her up. Hearing her voice when I’m bogged down with work makes me feel less stressed.” - Chitra Kumar Tan, 24, Marcomm assistant

Beauty shop
“I believe it is necessary to slather on my beauty products, as working in an air-conditioned environment makes my skin very dry. I always need my cream and lip gloss so as to protect my skin and not get dehydrated.” - Lynn Wee, 23, Bank executive

Healthy living
“Every morning I have to drink Vitagen before I start work. I even got my colleagues addicted to it as well, so we always pool money to stock up on it.” - Desmond Lee, 26, Business manager

Warm me up
“It’s very cold where I sit, so I won’t be able to survive a day without my cardigan and shawl. Sometimes I even have to wear another jacket over my cardigan.” - Jessie Tan, 29, Secretary
