The latest fiasco to rock our little red dot: Lee Bee Wah's shock sacking of table tennis team manager Antony Lee.
The decision comes about a week behind Singapore's first Olympic medal after almost five decades, barely a day after a coachless Gao Ning crashed out of the Games in 24 minutes to a relative nobody, and just before a jubilant Team Singapore returns home.
MP Lee Bee Wah, who is also president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA), had already taken an unforgiving stance early on. She said: "We cannot accept such things happening in such an important tournament," referring to the Gao Ning incident.
But no one expected the guillotine to fall so soon on Antony Lee, with Head Coach Liu Guodong also on the chopping board. With no proper inquiry conducted and no official reason given except that it being best for the STTA chief's "new team" to choose their manager, due process is conspicuously absent in the swift dismissal.
Further raising eyebrows: Ms Lee's inexperienced but heavy hand after only a month at the helm of STTA, and her denial that the Gao Ning incident had anything to do with the team boss' sacking, who apparently was due to go in a decision made before the Olympics.
When asked to comment, Singapore National Olympic Council president Teo Chee Hean said: "I assume that she has the facts of the situation to make the decision that she did."
Well, we know what assuming makes out of you and me.

Gao Ning
Why is the blame all towards the manager and coach?
How come Gao Ning doesn't bear any responsibility for his defeat and now goes around crying and blaming other people? He was the one with the paddle in his hand, not Antony Lee, not Liu, not MP Lee.
So sad for someone supposedly so highly ranked to go and pretend as if he definitely win if there was a coach to jia you him.
Why should he be blamed?
Why should Gao Ning get any of the blame? Whether or not a player is expected to win, the Table Tennis Association is expected to provide support in the form of a coach's physical presence during matches. I really don't see why any athlete should bear responsibility for their defeats in the sporting arena unless foul play is involved.
MP Lee is getting so much flak because of the way and time she dismissed Antony Lee. Her inconsistent remarks to the media haven't helped her credibility either.
ping pong politics
we really dunno the full story so its really hard to comment as to how this can happen
My take
I've read many opinions supporting LBW's decision to boot Antony Lee and they all seem to be saying the same thing - that Antony Lee should take the full blame for not providing a coach to Gao Ning.
How much a coach's presence then could've influenced the game, no one can tell.
But to these people, I think they fail to comprehend what the furore is all about. Singaporeans are mostly angered at the seeming betrayal in the story. That a man so pivotal to clinching Singapore's first Olympic medal in 48 years should be unceremoniously dismissed in a disrespectful and hasty manner..
True Sportsmanship
I am not aware of the full story on this as I am residing overseas. My friend was rather excited that Singapore finally make her name in Olympics. I am not the least excited. As I have been telling people, I do not see why Singapore has to "buy" sportsman to represent her in the game. Surely money makes the world go round. How glamorous it is to send sportsman representing the country who is not locally breed and trained in the first place? It is just glory on the superficial level, no substance. This is reflecting itself here. Bright brain does not bring bright act.
precisely
it's precisely because the public doesn't know the full details about such an ill-timed decision that such an uproar has been caused...
Bad timing
It's absurd that this should happen after the table tennis team wins Singapore's first Olympic medial in 48 years.
What has Lee Bee Wah herself done for the team? She's only been president for ONE month!
