Here's a quick explanation to the three numbers produced by the Salary Calculator.
  • Mean - the average salary of the profession of interest.
  • First Quartile - the wage at which one quarter of the employees earn below that amount.
  • Third Quartile - the wage at which three quarters of the employees earn below that amount.

2008 Top 100 Best Paying Jobs in Singapore

Data for the salary levels of 2008 have finally been released by the Ministry of Manpower. Since this is only the second set of such data to be featured on JobsCentral Community, it will be the first time we run a year on year comparison of the wages for occupations in various industries in Singapore. For the record, here are the top 10 highest paying jobs in Singapore in 2008:

The list of highest paying jobs is dominated by top management personnel, with the exceptions of the specialised surgeon in fourth position, the general manager from the Information and Communications industry at sixth position, and the commodities futures broker at tenth position. Within these 10 jobs, the monthly gross mean salary has increased from $20,167 in 2007 to $22,966.30 in 2008. Besides that, the difference between the monthly gross mean salary of the top paying job and the lowest one in the top 10 has also increased by 65% between the 2 years.

Zooming in to top management personnel, managing directors for Financial Services and Business Services were the highest paid, while their counterparts in industries such as Art, Entertainment, Recreation and Other Services earned considerably less.

On the whole, salaries for 2008 have increased from the year before, illustrated by how the minimum salary to be listed within the top 100 jobs has risen by 18.5% from 2007 to reach $8,057. Want to know if your job is within this top 100 list? Click here to find out.
