Kaplan and SUT partner to offer new business courses

Five new Bachelor of Business courses were launched today at a ceremony held at St. Regis Singapore. These courses will provide graduates from local polytechnics and International students more options to pursue a degree locally. The Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), an Australian university based in Melbourne has partnered Kaplan Singapore to provide courses such as Business Administration, Professional Accounting, Tourism Management, Marketing and Management.

“We have found a partner that shares the same goals we have in education – to have quality in what you deliver, as well as to be able to produce graduates who can get jobs. We are very confident that this partnership will be very successful,” says Professor Ian Young, Vice-Chancellor and President of SUT.

The academic programmes will focus on ‘discovery-based learning’ to equip students to think on their feet and be proactive. At Kaplan, the aim is to help people progress at the workplace and build their career.

“Singapore will be a significant tourism and financial hub in future, and so the programmes we offer will be directly relevant to these strategic industries. Therefore our students going through these programmes will be very well-equipped to participate in these developments.” says Mr. Mark Coggins, President, Kaplan, Asia Pacific.

Swinburne’s reputation for excellent teaching quality and specialist research-centric academic studies has also been successfully carried over into the International arena, in countries such as Vietnam, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia.

The new courses are offered on a part-time basis and will be suitable for working adults. Students enrolled with the university will have direct access to SUT’s resources and obtain a degree in 18 months. More importantly however, the course aims to equip students to be thinking, efficient individuals.

“It’s not about getting a bachelor’s degree but about real skills you built up – thinking skills, reasoning skills, the ability to analyse, judge, because that is what employers value most,” stressed Mr. Coggins.
